PATERNOSTER WITH AROUND ABOUT CARS

If you follow me on Instagram , you will know I have itchy feet and love to travel. From the warm Indian ocean of the East coast of South Africa, bustling city of New York to the snowcapped mountains of the Alps in Europe, I find exhilaration in all destinations I travel to.

Despite this, sometimes it's nice just to go somewhere less known, less explored and most definitely less crowded.

Recently I took a road trip with Around About Cars to the breathtakingly beautiful Paternoster, an old fishing town 145 km from the capital city, Cape Town.

Driving along the West coast with the backdrop of beautiful mountains and landscapes  on the one side and the other, the glistening ocean, a truly beautiful land.

And just over an hour’s drive from CapeTown  you turn off toward the ocean direction into the quaint village of Paternoster. We checked into the gorgeous Strandloper Boutique Hotel, located on the white sandy beach front with a breathtaking view of small colourful fishing boats.
First thing we did after we unpacked our bags was to explore the town, stretch our legs from the car drive and enjoy fresh air and a crisp glass of white wine at the Wolfgat overlooking the cool Atlantic ocean.

The people are as vibrant as the fishing skips and sell fresh crayfish and the catch of the day directly to you from the beach.

Eating at different restaurants every day was definitely on my to do list and must say the nouvelle cuisine presented by restaurateurs in this small town really out did themselves.

Here are some of the best restaurants we ate at in town:

1.) The Wolfgat was our first dining experience in the small town, indulging in fresh calamari and kingklip.
2.) The Noisy Oyster, besides the name being so catchy, had most probably the best street food I have ever tasted.
3.) Gaaitjie Restaurant was my favourite of the lot. The food was outstanding, not only well presented but incredibly delicious. The restaurant is located in the perfect spot with a 180 degree ocean view to watch the sunset over the Atlantic ocean. Nothing beats that right?
4.) A little drive from the town of Paternoster is the famous Die Strandloper Restaurant ,Named after the San people who used to walk along these very beaches collecting shell fish, Here one can experience a fun filled dining experience on the beach, freshly baked bread, Snoek, calamari, Crayfish,  Fish curries the list goes on.
In respect to the outdoors and adventurous side of things, we went Kayaking in the ocean which was a smooth as glass and extremely calm. It was so beautiful to see into the ocean and look at all the little creatures swimming around with not a care in the world. Next thing on our adventure to do list and something I highly recommend, is horseback riding along the coast. Early morning rides or sunset rides would most probably be my recommendation as it can become extremely hot midday.
The last fun activity we managed to squeeze in on our trip to Paternoster, was going on a Beach Buggy Tour in and around the town with our tour guide, learning more about the town its history and fascinating people.

In my opinion a long weekend is just the perfect amount of time to spend in Paternoster and catch your breath away from all the hustle and bustle.
